The Opportunity

KB Home is seeking a proactive and detail-focused Assistant Purchasing Agent to support our Purchasing team in managing the day-to-day operations of community-level purchasing. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys working with cross-functional teams, and is passionate about ensuring accuracy and efficiency in contracts, bidding, and vendor coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Bid & Contract Management:

    • Set up and manage bidding for new communities, including bid invitations, scope of work creation, and plan coordination.
    • Negotiate contracts and compile job cost trackers with base and option pricing.
    • Collaborate with the National Accounting and Purchasing Administration (NAPA) to execute contracts.
  • Contract Maintenance & Support:

    • Review and process job starts, contract changes, and late options to ensure timely and accurate documentation and payments.
    • Prepare contract change requests for VP Purchasing and VP Finance approval.
    • Maintain vendor documentation, including signed MSAs and scopes of work.
  • Vendor & Internal Coordination:

    • Serve as a key point of contact for subcontractors regarding contracts, scopes, and field concerns.
    • Coordinate model frame-walks and field meetings with superintendents, architects, and trade partners.
    • Ensure timely resolution of payment status, invoice aging, lien releases, and insurance issues.
  • Documentation & Systems Management:

    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the Vendor Database (Buzzsaw), including plans, sub lists, and community documentation.
    • Ensure all purchasing items are completed and distributed by scheduled due dates.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:

    • Work closely with VP Purchasing, Options Manager, Forward Planning, Operations, and NAPA to support purchasing needs across new and active communities.
    • Communicate progress, resolve issues, and ensure alignment with company standards and expectations.

What You Bring

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Degree in Accounting, Business, or Construction Management is helpful but not required.
  • 3–5 years of experience in a purchasing-related role (3 years in residential construction preferred).
  • Experience in contract administration, general office organization, and vendor coordination.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong follow-up and follow-through.
  • Self-motivated and collaborative, with a commitment to ethical behavior and team success.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation. 
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to move about work location.
  • Ability to drive/travel throughout the designated area to construction sites as needed.
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs.
  • Ability to observe details at close range and communicate information so others will understand.
  • Ability to transport and move up to 20 lbs and move as needed (for roles in Construction/Customer Service/IT/Land/Marketing/Sales/Studio).   
  • Periodically works in outdoor weather conditions (for roles in Construction/Customer Service/Land/Sales).
  • Maintain a professional and ethical conduct to reinforce company goodwill and profitability.
  • Position located at the Division Office (enter address) #LI-onsite.
